We are a senior couple and one of us has some mobility issues making long walks difficult. We are planning a trip to France in September with one week of it to be spent in Provence. We are considering Maussane-les-Alpilles as our base and renting a car to tour nearby towns and villages. Any tips would be appreciated. Also where would be the best place to rent a car? We will be taking the train from Carcassonne. We want to be able to drop the car where we could train to Paris for the last week of our trip.

Maussane is a fairly spread-out place without a real center, but it is a pretty area nonetheless, and it is conveniently located. From Carcassonne, the best place to rent a car is Nîmes Centre train station (or is it just called "Nîmes"? Can't remember. Anyway, NOT the Nimes-Pont du Gard station). And returning the car at the same place would make things easier since you'd already be familiar with the location.

Thank you! Is there a different town in the area that you would recommend over Maussane? My husband just loves to sit in a park and watch the world go by!

We spent a month in MLA last summer. Cannot recommend it highly enough. The town is small but has everything you need. And it’s flat. Many charming restaurants. The town square is lively with cafes. Easy to drive to many sites from there. We did something different almost every day.
