i am considering staying at the Mas Saint Antoine in the village of Rognonas in Provence in Sept/October. it seems like a great area to base ourselves in to see many areas and villages/towns while enjoying a peaceful "home "to come home to after a day of touring. We will have a rental car.
WE would like to do some biking and kayaking in Provence so wondering if this area would be suitable for that or quick to access areas to bike / kayak. Please share your opinion on staying in this area as well as your experience if you have stayed here.
Thank you so much!
Colleen
EuroVelo has developed bike trails and paths all over the continent. Click on the France link on the website to see what's in Provence.
Not sure about the biking, but the place to go kayaking in the region is the Ardèche river, in my opinion. The descent of the gorge is a full day, but it's really worth it. There are some rapids, nothing extreme but not as trivial as the tourist brochures would let you believe.
Or there is mellow kayaking on the Gardon river, upstream and under Pont du Gard.
As for Rognonas itself: the town is nothing special but the location is excellent!
We stayed there a few years ago on our 1st trip to Provence and absolutely loved the Mas and the location for day trips around the area. I’m sure the owners (who are delightful) will be happy to help you with the biking and kayaking questions.
It was great to explore all day and go back for a dip in the pool and relax. We did walk into the small village and enjoyed seeing the locals playing pétanque too. I think there is a new cafe there now. I would love to go back but there are so many new places to see! Hopefully someday.
