I have 3 days to go from Marseilles to Paris. It has been suggested that I rent a car & travel to Avignon, Lyon, Clermont-Ferrand & through Bourges Orleans. I would like any suggestions & particulars about the route, places to stay & what highlights to stop for. Thanks, Jaygee
You could easily spend three days just in Avignon and Lyon, which are both on the main train line, and don't necessitate a car. If you had a car, you would probably head onto smaller roads toward Le Puy-en-Velay, Clermont-Ferrand, and Bourges, skipping Lyon. When our tours stay in Bourges (walkable, half-timbered town center and gothic Cathedral), they also stop at the castle-building project at Guedelon. Most tourists avoid driving into Paris, but you could drop the car at Orly airport.
