Sorry if this is a repeat question
but what is the easiest way for us to get from Marseille France to Lauterbrunnen Switzerland ?
If you sugguest drive , are there any interesting places to stay a night inbetween ?
and were do we drop the car not to pay a drop off fee.
Or
fly ?
Easiest and quickest will be to fly. Look at a map for you to understand the distance. It is about 430 miles -- Geneva or Lausanne would be interesting stops for an overnight. Renting a car in one country and dropping in another country will result in a huge drop fee - perhaps as high as the initial rental. Seriously doubt if there is anyway to avoid a big drop fee.
There's a 7 hr. 17 min. train routing on weekdays. You'd leave Marseille-St. Charles at 8:38 AM and reach Lauterbrunnen at 3:55 PM, after changing trains in Lyon, Geneva, Bern and Interlaken. There are other departures that will get you there in less than eight hours. You can check options for your specific travel date on the Deutsche Bahn website, but you'll need to look elsewhere to find the fare.
To avoid an international rental-car drop-off fee you'd have to return the car in France. I'm guessing that the easiest place to do that would be on the French side of the Geneva airport. I think doing the trip by train would be faster.
I'm not sure you'd save time by flying; it would depend on how the flight schedules sync up with your onward transportation (presumably by train).
Fly (Geneva or Zurich).
