Marseille & Nice Weather, Please

Hi.
I've been checking the weather for late September and early October to plan my packing and could use your input.
In Provence back in June, the sun was blazing, with no clouds. The sun made it hotter than expected - but it was beautiful!!!

With Marseille and Nice do you find the sun is as intense as in Provence (Avignon/Arles)...during Sept/Oct? I'm thinking long sleeve t-shirts and light pants, plus a light blazer. Is a sweater or light jacket needed - or more summery outfits?

Thanks for any suggestions.

It was very unusual to have that heat wave this June. In the past, they were later in the summer. It was just as hot in Marseille and Nice as it was in Avignon and Arles. Now it’s cooler.

What you have listed is good but also include a jacket. Our highs this week are 78-80, but last week was colder. Living in the area you are asking about, this morning at 10 am I saw some jackets, a few sleeveless, a bit of everything. Last week was colder and probably future weeks, too.

October is a transition period where Marseille and Nice will typically very similar, but highly variable. Marseille is treading a little warmer right now. In late September to early Oct you can get rain, from a brief shower to even a storm (more common later in October). You should consider a light jacket.

Nice was actually cooler in peak temperature (~5C/10F higher in Avignon) than Provence during the heatwaves, as it typically is during summer (although usually a bit more humid and warmer at night -- but this past June the rest of the South was more humid than normal), it is a function of the geography (sea and mountains) and the prevailing weather patterns.
