Has anyone been to this museum in Marseilles? Is it worth a visit? Thank you
I did, in 2017. I think it was shortly after the museum opened, and I was wildly unimpressed. The big exhibition at the time seemed to be about garbage/recycling (or something like that)--probably directed primarily at children. I was really annoyed that I'd spent time going there; it was quite a walk. What's on display may have changed a lot; perhaps not all the exhibition areas were open at the time of my visit. A careful look at the museum's website should be informative, and this is a case when I'd suggest reading some recent TripAdvisor reviews.
My biggest disappointment in Marseille was the museums. I didn't find one worthy of a city that size (though in fairness I only go to museums on topics of interest to me).
Exhibitions rotate regularly; I went a few times between 2013 and 2019 but to be honest, I am unable to remember anything from what I saw, except the first few rooms of permanent collection about agriculture in the Mediterranean.
The building itself steals the show, and you do not need to pay for admission to visit it. You can visit both Fort Saint Jean and the outer layer of the main museum (behind the grille, but outside the exhibition rooms) for free. It is worth it.
