Markets in the 9th

Are there any farmers markets close to Saint-Lazare on Mondays (end of May)? Thinking to but stuff for a picnic and head to a park to walk off the jet lag. If not, what would you do after checking in, around noon? Where would you walk?

Monday is not a good day for outdoor markets. I can't think of any that are open on Monday and the area you mention is not great for markets anyway. Maybe you can walk along Rue des Martyrs and Rue de Rochechouart and pop into the shops on those streets.

There is the Square d'Anvers - Friday from 3PM to 8PM. But you might have to park your luggage for awhile if you are in an AirBnB.

Unfortunately not only are there no markets on Mondays but market streets usually close that day as well e.g. Rue Levis, Mouffetard etc etc. I'd plan on something else for a Monday. I have noticed a few shops are open on Rue Montorgueil on Mondays but not the array available on other days. Market streets close Sunday afternoon and Monday. Markets usually run from about 7 am to 2 or so.

This is a list of all the markets and the days they are open:

The grocery stores are open on Mondays and bakeries close different days. You could certainly find a bakery and get pre-made sandwiches (stuffed baguette rolls), a dessert and drink and head for a park with that. Many bakeries do a lively lunch business and some even have 'formulae' or 'Menus' with a fixed price for sandwich drink and dessert which they put in a bag with. a napkin for you. They will also heat up a small quiche. I would bet all the bakeries around St. Lazare do this routinely. You could easily pick up a baguette and some goodies at a bakery and some cheese at a cheese shop or a grocery store to assemble a picnic if you preferred.

there are little squares here and there but I might head towards Parc Monceau in the 8th for a nice picnic.

Do you mean Gare Saint-Lazare? Area shops might not be open either. Monday is a tough day for grocery shopping in Paris., especially if the area had a Sunday market. There is a Monoprix inside the train station and a Marks and Spencer down rue Pepiniere at the front of the station. Both are probably open on Monday. The 9th is pretty short of green space. The 8th has Monceau as mentioned and all the Champs locations

Thank you all! Janet, I appreciate the link you shared, and I like the idea of walking to Parc Monceau. My daughter will be thrilled, she's 10.

Parc Monceau has a refreshment stand too as well as a small carrousel -- maybe a little young for your daughter. It is a pretty park and has a playground with equipment aged for her. I think there are 4 playgrounds -- some more for toddlers others for older kids. If the walk is too far -- hop a metro or bus.

There is a large Monoprix on the Rue de Caumartin. We are staying in the 9th as well, and this is where we will do our initial "stock up" shopping for the apartment. Be sure to check out the Lafayette Gourmet at the Galleries Lafayette which is also nearby. Next to the Lafayette, Printemps has a new food shop on the 7th and 8th floors. We will be going to Marche President Wilson on Wednesday via Bus 32. Bon Appetit!

janet - most markets open from about 8:30 to 1:30. And many supermarkets open on Sundays from about 8:30 to 1:30, or later.

Thanks, everyone! Sportkite1, appreciate your detailed response. We'll be near the market on Wednesday anyway, so we'll be sure to stop by.
