Markets in Paris

Hi All,
We're heading to Paris for 6 days in October and I'm wondering about the markets. I know there are several street markets with produce, cheese, and bread vendors, but I'd like to know if there's anything in Paris that's similar to Old Spitalfields or Brick Lane in London?

Specifically goods/arts/crafts/jewelry but not vintage/second hand/flea market - reminiscent of Spitalfields and something along the lines of food truck/street food like Brick Lane.

For instance I bought a beautiful, unique but affordable purse at Spitalfields, and the vendor had tools to monogram the inside flap on site. At Brick Lane, there was a fantastic sourdough bacon jam grilled cheese that I ate sitting on a curb watching the world go by.

Is there anything like that in Paris?

Thank you !

The Bastille weekly market on Saturday is an art market -- Sundays and Thursdays it is a regular food market. The big weekly markets usually have some housewares and clothing booths but they are pretty lame. I have never found anything I want at the Bastille art market. There are likely to be scarves, hats, purses etc as well as bad art.

for flea marketing there are local 'vide grenier' which you find by signs like garage sales. There are a couple of major ones. St. Ouen which is an enormous flea market -- no bargains there but lots of interesting stuff. Vanves is smaller and I have found the occasional treasure there. These are open weekends.

From the food side the street rue des Martyrs in Pigalle has some of the best culinary specialties - fish, meats, breads, etc - but mostly in permanent stores. Check out La Chambre aux Confitures - Martyrs for the most amazing jams and spreads. There are also small boutiques and stores selling trendy things. It's a great place to spend a leisurely morning after getting coffee at one of the many cafes.

Enjoy Paris,
