Market - St. Remy or Arles?

Hi everybody,

Planning for our early June segment of this summer's trip which finds us staying 3 nights in Saint Remy de Provence. In my research it seems that market is on Wednesday in both St Remy and Arles - any thoughts or suggestions on one over another?

Thanks in advance!

The market is bigger in Arles, but driving and parking on market days is annoying, so I would stick with Saint Rémy. Purely from a practicality standpoint!

Also, a bigger market is not necessarily a better market. Many stands are similar after a while.

Hello,
These two cities are famous for their Provencal markets with local products, crafts and gastronomy. However, the market in Arles is more extensive (2 km long), but parking can be complicated.
The market in Saint Rémy takes place on Wednesday and Saturday mornings on the Place de la République, and in Arles on Saturday mornings on the Boulevard des Lices.
In Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, parking in the orange zone is free for visitors for 45 minutes and then the rate is 2 € / h, between 9am and 7pm. In Arles, parking is charged every day in summer from 9am to 7pm and free on Saturday afternoon from 3pm, on Sundays and on public holidays.
I hope this will be useful to you!

Last June, the Arles market on Wednesday had produce, baked goods, honey, tapenade, and a lot of colorful cheap clothing. We also got our lunch there. My impression from reading is that the Saturday market is bigger and has more of the handcrafts.

We did both last summer. Don't think any advantage the one or the other. Would choose Arles only if you would like to also do any of the other sites there such as Van Gough walk, Roman museum, arena or others. But you could do those on another day too.

If you are staying in St Remy, why would you consider going to Arles for the market day?

Hi everybody - thanks for your comments!

I guess to answer the last question, I wasn't sure if the market in Arles was worth making sure we get there on that Wednesday morning, if it was much larger or more interesting. We are staying in a small place in St Remy.

Thanks y'all!
