I want to thank everyone who answered my post a few months back on getting to Malmaison via public transportation. I took the RER to La Defense, found the local bus very easily, enjoyed the ride through the suburbs, LOVED Malmaison and the gardens, got back to central Paris.....all with no problem.
I did it last week, i took the métro to La Defense, and i agree the bus from La Defense to Malmaison is the easiest way to get there.
Been going to Malmaison since i was a child and i absolutely love it too.
Compared to the US, I thought the bus was great. It was clean, had good seats and was well utilized. I love to see public transportation with standing room only instead of being one of maybe five people on the bus. Plus I like to people watch and there was a diversity of people to 'watch.'
@Laurie Beth, if you like public transit that is standing room only, do I have a BART ticket so sell you!
Laurie Beth, do you take buses in Paris? They’re the same, can sometimes be more convenient than the métro, and the view is nicer.
Susan, yes I take buses quite often in Paris as you get a view rather than being underground. However, it was more difficult this time as some routes had changed since the last time I was there. Laura B. I only love standing room only when I have a seat...hee hee.
Why the view from the bus window on the way to Malmaison is important is a mystery to me. If the view is ugly, don’t look. Read a book, see what other passengers are wearing, divert your gaze from the “ugly view” and look forward to the chateau visit.
Thanks, Norma. I agree with your comment. I was not saying the ride was scenic. I enjoyed seeing a part of Paris where people actually lived and I particularly enjoyed people watching those on the bus. It was a real cross section of life
The bus # is 258... not 289.
Lauri-Beth, i use Google Maps or the RATP app for buses which helps.
