Madeline in Paris?

Hi everyone,

We have booked a family vacation in Paris for next March. My daughter is a fan of the Madeline book series. Has anyone come across any Madeline themed tours or stops that we should know about? Thanks in advance

A bit of literary trivia, in case there are more Madeline fans out there:

That "smallest one" got her start in a bar in Manhattan. Pete's Tavern is where Ludwig Bemelmans is said to have scribbled the opening lines and illustrations for the first book on the back of a menu. O. Henry is said to have written all or part of "Gift of the Magi" at Pete's as well, and there is a plaque outside commemorating both literary claims to fame.

Friends of Libraries USA Literary Landmarks Register
Pete's Tavern, est. 1864
in recognition of its nurturing atmosphere for O. Henry,
when he wrote The Gift of the Magi,
and Ludwig Bemelmans, when he wrote Madeline
is designated September 25, 1999.

I have lifted a pint at Pete's. :O)

Ludwig wrote many books but considered himself an illustrator first. His murals decorate Bemelmans Bar at the Carlyle Hotel.

I am a Bemelmans lover , and as Kathy points out , Madeline is a creation born in the States.. I often drop into The Bemelmans Bar in The Hotel Carlyle on Madison Avenue and 76th to enjoy the murals ( although not a drink , at those prices ) . Bemelmans work , in addition to Madeline goes further , and his memoirs are a pure joy . https://www.amazon.com/Tell-Them-Wonderful-Ludwig-Bemelmans/dp/0070044538 A few years ago , in The Dolomites , we stopped at the hotel in Klobenstein ( Collalbo ) where he lived prior to emigrating to The States in 1914 .

Oooh, many thanks, Steven! Looking forward to watching it!
I've not been to the Carlyle to see the murals yet but we've young friends in NYC (Battery Park City) who just moved into a bigger apartment and want us to come out for a flat-warming fest. I have the murals on my to-do list!

Kathy , When you watch the film , it seems to start a few minutes in . , Be sure to back it up to the start , John Steinbeck's introduction is marvelous !
