Macon or Tournus??

After a week in Lyon and before we fly out of Roissy for Chicago, my husband & I have two full days to explore someplace new in France. We will have already spent 10 days in Beaune at the start of this trip. We're considering Macon or Tournus. We won't have a car & we would like a walkable town or city within easy access to the train.

Your vote between Macon or Tournus? Or can you recommend someplace else in this region?

Merci!

Mâcon gets my vote, too, as a base for your 2 days, with fairly good bus connections.

I’ve spent a good amount of time in the nearby Cluny area. Its restored abbey and town are well worth a visit. A few miles north is the beautiful Chateau de Cormatin (restored interiors, gardens with a maze). And throughout the entire area are charming little villages, tiny romanesque churches, and wineries.

Here is the link to the regional bus service.

The September schedule should be out by mid August, but this will give you an idea of frequency.

Hello Kathi,

Why not Macon and Tournus :) ?
Macon is a bigger city so you have more public transportation to get around the city but Tournus is a really beautiful city...
