Lyons Restaurant

Would like to eat a special meal during our time in Lyons. Any recommendations based on personal experience?
Thanks

Daniel et Denise (https://danieletdenise.fr/en/home/) - This is always my first recommendation for anyone visiting Lyon. The food is delicious and the service warm and welcoming. To me, it's a bit more of a modern interpretation of the classic Lyonnaise bouchon, but you can still have the local dishes Lyon is famous for. There are 3 locations around Lyon so it should be easy to pick one that's convenient to you.

Hi Gladys,

I'm not sure of your budget or interest in food. You could try a bouchon such as Daniel et Denise. But those are pretty limited, in my opinion. I wouldn't consider them a place to have a special meal. More a place to have an idiosyncratic meal characteristic of a Lyon's cultural history. Maybe that would be special for you -- and if so, the Daniel et Denise chain of restaurants should serve you quite well. But...

...If you want a Michelin star experience, consider le Comptoir du Sixième.

...If you want to go w-a-y over the top, head outside of town and go to l'Auberge du Pont de Collonges -- Paul Bocuse's flagship.

...If you want a traditional Lyonnaise experience, consider La Mère Brazier on the presqu'île, the restaurant that spawned many other Lyonnaise restaurants.

...And if you want a low-stress neighborhood joint with excellent food, consider Le Florentin in the sixth arrondissement. I've eaten there multiple times and never had a bad experience.

And, by the way, it's Lyon. Not "Lyons." "Lyons" is a Britishism, just as is "Marseilles."

In French, it's Lyon and it's Marseille. No terminal "s." I've never understood from where the British got that.

I ate at Bistrot d'Abel which is a Bouchon style Restaurant in the Presquele area and out of the five Restaurants that we ate at it was the best and had two Dinners there.Great atmasphere and service.

Not sure it's what you are thinking of but Lyon is famous for Bouchon, a type of restaurant that is family style seating with seasonal foods (often lots of game, mushrooms, etc.).

I didn't find a Bouchon I would recommend. Because a lot of people are looking for Bouchon, many local eateries call themselves Bouchon even though they really aren't.

I had one great meal there but it was at a small restaurant based on a local recommendation. I only got in because an Australian man's wife was sick and he offered to share his table with me. My recommendation is to have your hotel get you a reservation as soon as you arrive or when you contact them.

Gladys, we dined at Daniel & Denise, Rue Crequi, and it was extremely good. Great, somewhat (but not overly) formal service. Also, Cafe des Federations is an excellent, somewhat more casual spot. We had a great time there, beginning with the egg in red wine sauce appy. Call ahead for a res for either one, late afternoon local time, yes they speak some English.

I wasn't sure if you meant an upscale place for a special meal, or just a special meal ;-)
