Hello travelers. Anyone done a good walking tour in Lyon? We love the combination of historical knowledge, warm personality and quick wit (sometimes a bonus). Thx for info, susan
Global Greeter Network people are making local volunteer guides available in more and more places around. Use their GGN Website and arrange for a Lyon Greeter(s)! I had a wonderful couple show me their city, and lots of history, restaurant tips, and other things that you’d get from a personal friend who happened to live there.
I’ve had great experiences with Greeters in Nice, France and Florence, Italy, too.
One of the best values in Lyon is The Lyon City Card. When we were there I think there was a choice of architectural walk or river cruise. We chose the cruise, which was great. The TI there is very good, central on Place Bellecour-perhaps contact them and ask re walking tours?
I also found this page, from the TI:
As Dave says, a tour is included in the City Card. I took a tour of the traboules and it was outstanding.
The City card recommendations are most helpful. Thank you.
Greeters are free, by the way. Qualified, helpful Volunteers.
I used Lyon Greeters who are affiliated with Paris Greeters and our guide met Us at Place Belcour and took us on a great tour and also gave us restaurant suggestions, the tour was very informative.

I also got the Lyon City Card and took the Vieux Lyon tour as my free one. It was good - too much time in the cathedral IMHO but otherwise I enjoyed it. There were others to choose from as well, including a food tour, and the prices seemed reasonable.
Hello,
If you are at all interested in cuisine history with a cooking class, Lucy Vanel at Plum Lyon is extremely knowledgeable. She gives an extensive history of cuisine in Lyon along with her cooking classes based on a market tour . She is a pastry chef trained in France and very erudite.
