Lyon to CDG - crazy expensive hotel rates - options?

Hello! A friend and I will be vacationing in France in October, leaving Lyon on 10/17 and taking the train that afternoon to stay in a hotel near CDG for flights out around noon on 10/18. Airport hotels are very expensive that night (Sheraton $499, Courtyard $518, Hilton $555, Holiday Inn $308). Does anyone have suggestions of locations that would be a taxi drive away for 9AM arrivals at CDG in the $150-200 range? Or can you suggest another way to tackle this? I hate to have our most expensive hotel of the trip to be at the airport!

We usually stay at the Novotel at the airport -- decent quiet room, good breakfast included. Their rates for your date are $148.

If nothing works at the airport, you could spend that last night in the eastern side of Paris. Somewhere around Nation would be easy to reach from Gare de Lyon, and convenient for a taxi the next morning at 7.30 AM (to play it very safe).

The Ibis at Roissypôle (where I stayed a few months ago) says it's not available those dates (seems weird) but there is an Ibis Budget very near by, at $172 for the night. Would be basic accommodation, but more reasonable than what you found.

Probably a huge convention or other major event going on. Those prices are high for all of those hotels, but, I’ve seen everything in Paris and the airport sold out before for an event like Fashion Week. Fall is convention season.

Well that price made me curious for sure! When I tried to book on the Marriott website, it said the rate was a Special Event rate. Then it offered a round trip RER ticket to the Parc de Expositions as part of the room rate. When I looked at the calendar for the Parc De Expositions, it showed this event: https://www.expobeds.com/event/equip-auto. It’s some kind of big deal in the “automotive aftermarket” and draws in nearly 100,000 attendees.

There’s lots of hotels closer to the venue, though, so I don’t know why the Sheraton is pushing up the rates so much. This doesn’t fix your problem, I know, but it’s interesting. I’ve never seen the rate that high.

September/early October is the most expensive time in Paris for hotels. If something big is happening at Parc des Expositions, hotels near the airport will be booked already, with any remaining rooms offered at top prices.

Just stay in Paris and book early. Any hotel along the RER B will be 30 minutes and 10.30€ from the airport. Potential spots include Gare du Nord, les Halls, St Michel, or Luxembourg. You can take a taxi from anywhere on the Right Bank to CDG for 53€ plus a 7€ reservation fee. If you have a noon CDG departure, depart your Paris hotel around 6h30 to 7h00.

I would find an inexpensive hotel near one of the RER B stops. Try Gare du Nord area or Denfert Rochereau. (Luxembourg and Chatelet Les Halles also possible but may be harder to find budget hotels.) If that strategy doesn't work, find a hotel in a nice less central neighborhood. Montparnasse, Batignolles, wherever and plan to cab in the morning. Reserve the cab about 24 hours ahead as when things are busy it is sometimes hard to reserve a cab the evening before (we ran into that in May). Cab will be 60 or 65 with reservation fee from within Paris to CDG.

I'd feel most secure being on the RER B line with a cheap straight shot to the airport in the morning.

Try Hotel du Midi Paris Montparnasse. It's around the corner from the Denfert Rochereau RER stop, close to cafés and restaurants on the next street.

Or try the Ibis Ledru Rollin near the Gare de Lyon train station. It's easy to get to CDG--either changing at Châtelet or Gare du Nord. Someone else can give you the details. I forget the fine print. Or take a taxi.

The Holiday Inn at $300 may not be such a bad deal when you factor in the cost of travel ( and the hassle factor)

Look at the whole picture, not just the room rate.

Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions! We've booked a hotel near Gare de Lyon at a much more reasonable rate and will enjoy a final dinner in Paris before heading home the next morning. The booking I thought would be easiest turned out to be the most challenging!
