Lyon to Bayeux by train

Hello,

We are traveling to France, starting with 3 nights in Paris. We have a need to go to Lyon for a couple of days, but then wish to go to Bayeux for D-Day sights before leaving from Paris to go back home.

Would you take the train back to Paris and then go from there to Bayeux or better to take a train from Lyon to Bayeux? We'd rather not drive.

Thanks!

Oui Pui,
Going through Paris is really your only good option between Bayeux and Lyon. It will probably be faster, even though you have to change stations in Paris. Check the SNCF website for more details. Bonne chance!

I just looked at the SNCF website, and as noted by the previous poster, you will need to change stations in Paris from Gare de Lyon to Gare Saint Lazare.

One suggestion...I recently did a station change in Paris by taxi because I hadn't studied my other options. It was a mistake because with Paris traffic I almost missed my connection. I actually ended up with a station staff member yelling at me "There's your train. RUN!"

If I had to do this again, I would definitely study the relevant Metro lines in advance and go that way. Of course if you have a lot of luggage that might impact your decision. Just be sure to note your connection times on the trip you select because they can sometimes be a bit short for a stress free transfer.

I second Linda’s suggestion about using the metro for the station to station transfer. It’s super easy: metro line 14 connects the two stations. Some of the worst traffic that have ever been in was in two different taxi rides between Gare de Lyon and Gare St-Lazare.
