Hi all, we're new to this forum, we are planning to travel by car from Lyon to Barcelona and are looking for highlights or can't misses along the way or nearby.
Thanks!
Kevin
There is a lot. You can travel right through Provence. Search the Provence area and map your route on Google maps to locate the towns along the way.
Note that it is expensive to rent a car in France and return it in Spain, so either you drop off in Perpignan and pick up a new car in Spain, or you return the car over the border.
How many days do you have for this?
thanks for the tip on the car rental, we will keep that in mind. We are thinking 7-10 days.
Hi from Wisconsin,
Use Autoeurope to check rental prices. Day of the week can some time influence prices. Book a fully cancelable rental for your plan as soon as possible. They are cancelable without any grief. Try a Lyon to near French border, then Lyon to Barcelona. See what the dead head charge is. I have heard enormous charges and then...some reasonable ones. Mostly bad news though.
A small car will get into locations like villages and parking spots that a larger car will not. A manual transmission is easier to rent and lower cost than an automatic. If you stop anywhere on this trip it will take hours to see what you are looking for. First find a place to park...ouch.
I assume that you won't want a car while you are in Barcelona. So why not dump it in France.

One town north of Barcelona is Figures. It houses the Salvador Dali Museum. I am not a huge fan but it is a sight to behold. The people are very friendly and lots of great restaurants too. Do check the opening hours as we missed getting in the last time we went. We are considering going and staying for a while after the husband retires.
