Lyon Resturants

Hello, I am looking for recommendations for good resturants in Lyon, France. A casual restaurant, comfortable, family atmosphere with great food not too pricey. Any suggestions?

Thank you!

A few questions:

  • The Lyon metro area has nearly 1.5 million people and is spread over a sizable area. Where will you be staying?

  • What kind of food are you looking for? In other words, what would you characterize as great food? Keep in mind Lyon's characteristic (though not ubiquitous) type of restaurant is a bouchon, a somewhat casual restaurant serving what might delicately be described as "variety meats."

  • At what threshold per person would you start to consider a meal too pricey?

Knowing that kind of information might help those responding provide suggestions that are more useful to you.

Have a quenelle at Cafe des Federations in Lyon, 9 Rue Major Martin. Though their website is in French, an English translation of the dinner menu is available on the site. Make reservations as it is a very popular place.

We just wandered out of our hotel at our dinner time (early for Lyon) and walked along the street (Rue Mercière) reading menus, picked the place on the spot depending on how we felt that night.

Although I still don't know what you mean by great food or not too pricey, I will weigh in that rue Mercière is popular with some visitors to Lyon, not so much the residents. Though, if you're there on a nice evening it can be an enjoyable atmosphere.

There are better places nearby but I don't know your criteria for restaurants so I can't make an informed recommendation.
