Lyon- looking for recommendations

We will be in Lyon this spring. Does anyone have recommendations for hotels or mid priced restaurants that you really enjoyed? Thank you

On several trips, I’ve stayed in apartments thru Vrbo.com.

One good mid-priced restaurant, in the Croix Rousse neighborhood in the upper town, is Le Canut et Les Gones.

Hi
L'Atelier d'Ainay off of place Bellecour is wonderful, but when I was there last they only opened for lunch.
For dinner, I really enjoy Le Dandee, which is off of, or near, the Bourse area. Another 5 minute walk from Place Bellecour. Both of these restaurants were recommended by a friend of mine who has lived in Lyon for 20+ years, so she is very much a local.

Good luck

Lyon used to be a deal but that place has gotten way expensive. In 2014 I think I paid $50 a night in-between Gare Part Dieux and the river. A year ago, I paid $200 a night for a fire trap on the "island" which was comparable to $40 hotels I had stayed - and that was the cheapest place in town. Maybe it was just a bad week, but everything was taken and it was more expensive than Paris.

The nicest new area of Lyon is to the south where the river meet called the Confluence. There is a nice shopping center and condos there. But getting on the tram to go back some high school kids surrounded us, and a girl asked stupid questions while her accomplishes tried to open our backpacks. Luckily we had security bags that can not be opened easily.

Another bit about Lyon - make reservations for the restaurants.

The church at the top of the hill is really nice and a nice view. There is a funicular that makes it much easier than walking up that huge hill (I have done both way).

I can't comment on hotels but I'll put in a plug for two apartment-rental services that we have used and been pleased with: Cocoonr (used in 2022) and aulyondort.com (used a few times but most recently in 2016).
Restaurants: the chain of brasseries founded by Paul Bocuse are reliable - nothing especially high-class but good quality at a reasonable price. There are several (seven?) in and around Lyon - Le Sud is the most centrally-located, just off Place Bellecour.
Another fun restaurant is the Brasserie des Brotteaux whose decor is very turn-of-the-(19/20th)century.
