We are staying in Albertville, France, prior to departing for the USA in early April. Any recommendations on using the Lyon, France airport (LYS) over the Geneva, Switzerland airport (GVA) or vice versa? Thanks.
Iceland air flies out of Geneva, and they've had the best prices lately for USA to France travel.
Train travel from either airport 2.5 - 3.5 hours with 2 connections. From Lyon airport, rather than taking the expensive, reserved TGV train that departs directly from St. Exupery airport, it would be more flexible to take the airport shuttle tram into Lyon Part-Dieu station, then catch an unreserved regional train connection. The reservation issue does not come up when departing Geneva. How to Look Up Train Schedules and Routes Online gives you the DB train schedule link and tips for using it.
Aer Lingus also flies into Geneva, and when I reserved in January (for April), it was several hundred dollars cheaper than any other airline except for Turkish Air.
The wave has probably crested by then, but on Saturdays during ski season, Geneva airport is an absolute mad house.
