Lyon: Family lodging

Hi !
We will be in Lyon for 3 nights with our 12 and 15 years old in august (8-11) for 3 nights. It will be our first time in Lyon and want to see the usual tourist highlights (Traboules, good food, old Lyon, Fouvrières.) .

We will have to catch a flight at 13:30 on august 11. We will also come to Lyon with a car and drop it somewhere when we arrive ( I dont think a car in Lyon is necessary or good to have ! ).
We have a hard time finding decent and not too expensive airbnb or hotel with AC.
Is there a location thatis not too expensive, have good access to public transport (if needed), restaurants around and it's safe in the evening ?

Thanks !

Best Western Hotel du Pont Wilson
6 Rue Mazenod, 69003, Lyon, France

They have a Chambre familiale that has a king bed and 2 single bunk beds. Best Western in France is definitely not what you might be used to in Canada.

Hi....860 Euros for 3 nights...Is not what we call ''not too expensive''. There could be decent airbnb not far from that location that we thought was too far.

Well, I am sure there is a Mister Bed or Formule 1 in the outskirts or an Ibis Budget near the gare. But gares and the outskirts might be what you consider sketchy.

Or try an appartotel like Citadines. It will be cramped as they usually have 1 bed and 1 sofa bed. But probably not too expensive.

You're going to have to give up something on your list to have cheap, safe, and convenient. Everyone's opinion of what's "decent" and "not too expensive" is rather subjective.

Hi, I am late to give you a reply. But I guess it's a safe city. I have a distant cousin living there. I never heard he had major problems there. Hope you enjoyed your stay. Ghazi Joseph Haddad.

Alexander, sorry about my comment that could seems to be a bit harsh !

I was looking to know which ''arondissemen'' could offer a good mix of easy access to sights (on foot or by public transport), safety and price that arent too high. We are open to travel by public transport and rent an airbnb.

I usually recommend Hôtel des Artistes or Hôtel des Célestins to visitors. It's where we stay when we're in Lyon -- both hotels are near the Théâtre des Célestins and centrally located in the presqu'île a short walk to Place Bellecour, with easy access to the places you've mentioned. There's underground parking in the square in front of the theatre that's convenient to use if you have a car. It's a nice area and about as safe as anywhere in Lyon, which means pretty safe.

In particular, you might check out Célestins because they have one or two apartments on the top floor capable of accommodating up to six people. When we met a family visiting from the states in Lyon a few years ago, we booked that for them and they were very happy with it.

Both hotels are quaint but comfortable, and both have air conditioning.
