Lyon - Annecy bus reassurance

Can anyone help me reassure my somewhat anxious elderly father that there is no need to reserve the SNCF non-stop bus from Annecy to Lyon in advance? Monday morning in June.

June is prime tourist season so I don't think anyone can guarantee that there will be an available seat on a particular bus. If you don't buy a ticket in advance you take your chances and hope the bus isn't sold out. If he knows which day he wants to travel, why not just buy the ticket in advance? If a particular bus time is not critical it shouldn't be a problem as they run every couple of hours.

When I traveled that route in June I did have an advance ticket, which was good because the bus was full.

I have definitely seen some trains (and occasionally buses as well) marked as "sold out", and it seems more frequent on Fridays and Mondays. Having said that, I travel all over Europe with no transportation pre-booked, because I have the time to be flexible. I certainly don't think there's any rush to buy a June bus ticket this early unless you're dealing with a holiday weekend, and even then you can probably wait awhile. I'm not clear, though, on whether the prices of bus tickets tend to climb as the travel date approaches.

If he's concerned, buy the ticket a day or two ahead of time. When he arrives in Annecy, he can stop and buy his ticket to Lyon.
