Any recommendations to get get from Lyon airport to train station? We will be travelling on to Beaune. Or is there a more direct way to get to Beaune from Lyon airport (train or bus)?
Thank you.
Ruth
Take the airport tram to Lyon Gare Part Dieu.
There are TER trains to Beaune every hour at 16 past the hour. Price is 27.20 EUR unless you are 60 or over, then you get a 25% discount except at peak commuter hours. Takes 1 hour and 40 minutes or so.
Thanks Sam. So the 60+ discount is 't limited to EU members?
No. Anyone. Probably not for the tram from the airport though, but ask.
Hi Ruth,
The streetcar connecting Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport to Gare Lyon Part-Dieu is called Rhônexpress.
You can purchase tickets ahead of time online if you wish, and get a 7.5 percent discount for a one-way trip.
The most practical way of getting from Lyon to Beaune, if you don't have a car, would be go to Lyon and catch a train to Beaune (generally, a stop on the way to Dijon). The two largest train stations in Lyon are Part-Dieu and Perrache, and it's easy to get from one to the other by train, streetcar, bus, or taxi.
However, Lyon is a much richer, much larger, more diverse, and interesting town than Beaune. For what it is, Beaune is OK, but Lyon has a history reaching back to pre-Roman days, good museums, architecture, restaurants, shopping, and activities that Beaune can't begin to match.

Just saw the response above. I'm unaware of any discount for seniors on Rhônexpress. And I believe the senior discount on trains through SNCF requires one to purchase a senior card, which can lead to a 25 percent discount, at an annual cost of 60€ (includes one traveling companion). Renewals for subsequent years may be discounted through various special offers common to SNCF.
That's great for regular travelers, but probably would not be interesting to one-time travelers.
Also, through the link I provided above, I clicked through to see if it was available to residents of the U.S. On my computer from my Internet service provider here in France, the United States was not one of the countries listed for those wishing to purchase a senior card. That may be an artifact of my Internet address, or it may mean U.S. residents aren't eligible for the senior card; at least via an online purchase.
I bought and used a senior card in 2017. I have a US passport.
The senior discount on TER trains does not require a Carte Senior, just a passport with your birth date. Been there, done that. The only trains that do not give the discount are the 7:16, 17:16, and 18:16. Those are commuter hours.
PS. I guess I should add that those hourly trains are M-F. Weekends every 2 hours at 16 past the odd hours.

Did you buy it online or in person at a train station or SNCF office?

I guess you can tell I'm not 60 or older!
Damn, I've been 60+ for over 6 years and haven't gotten a train discount. But maybe it applies only to the TER, and I've mostly taken the TGV.
