I am planning a visit to Provence in mid October. My understanding is that the hill towns won’t be as lively as at other times of the year, but am wondering if most shops, restaurants, etc. will be open. Can anyone advise me if October is a good time to visit the area? Thank you.

It's a great time to visit, I would not worry about it. Should still be good weather, too. Things get worse from November onwards, usually.

Shops and restaurants should be open until some time in November.

I have twice gone in October and think it is the perfect time (except for the fact that the lavender isn't flowering!).
