We will be driving through Chartres and need to find a nice place to stop for lunch and a rest. We have young kids, so somewhere relaxed would be best but hopefully good food, as it'll be my husband's birthday! It'd also be nice to get a brief acquaintance with the city.
Bring up a city map of Chartres. Zoom in. I found a Pizza Hut, a Taco place, etc. You can bring up their menus too.
We ate at a couple of the places right around the Cathedral -- sorry don't remember names -- and both were surprisingly good.
If it says Tacos, always with the s, it’s not Mexican but is a sandwich invented in a Lyon suburb of France and big with the teenagers. You’ll see tacos everywhere. Don’t get hopeful thinking it’s Mexican.
Café Bleu to me is the best option - right to the left as you're facing la cathédrale.
Café Serpente is a bit expensive but the food is fine.
a little on town, La Passacaille, is a pizza place that isn't bad.
I second Café Bleu! It is relaxed enough for your family, but the food is quite good, and fairly priced. Reservations essential!
You can't drive right there but you can park at the Cathédrale parking lot and walk 5 minutes (or Coeur de Ville and walk 10 min).
We also really enjoyed Cafe Bleu.
