Yes, I follow Rick's advice about packing light, but my husband and I are spending a month in France, which includes a week at a fencing camp in Bordeaux. We don't want to schlep the fencing bag from place to place, so we're considering using a luggage shipping service, like Luggage Free to get is there and home again. I saw some feedback in a previous post, but was curious if anyone had more recent experiences with anyone they'd recommend (or steer clear of). We're arriving 4th August, 2022. Merci!
Many people in the expat forums have had good experiences with Ship My Bag.
I believe the company Bets is referring to is Send My Bag:
I've used them and they are very efficient. You arrange everything through their website. DHL did the pickup and delivery. It took three or four days.
I believe the rates were cheaper than actually using DHL.
SNCF (the train comany) also has a luggage shipping service called "Mes Bagages" that has 24h/48h delivery starting from 29 euros. You don't need a train ticket, but if you have one the VAT is 10% instead of 20%. They have home pickup/delivery to your doorstep as well as 27,000 relay points to choose from. The standard service is up to 25 kg and they also ship odd sized bags. If you are traveling by train quite a bit and buy a loyalty card, there's an extra 15% discount.
