Louvre - Wednesday Visit

Hi,
My wife, son, and I would like to visit the Louvre on a Thursday in July. The morning doesn't work that well for us, so we are wondering if the afternoon would be less busy compared to late morning early afternoon. I know it closes at 6:00, so we were thinking of visiting around 2:30pm or 3:00pm and follow the Rick Steves self guided tour.

We would appreciate your thoughts and feedback.

Thanks,
Ryan

You're in luck! The Louvre is open late on Wednesdays and Fridays, so it doesn't close until 9:45pm. Going in the evening is definitely less crowded. The RS self guided tour is a good idea.

the Louvre rolls up wings starting half an hour before closing but on Wednesday that will be at 9 to 9:15. It is kind of fun to watch them do this. Everyone is out and on the street by official closing time. This is true of other museums too so when doing late in the afternoon, mentally subtract half an hour from official closing times when planning an afternoon visit.

Sorry...Thursday. We were originally going to go on Wednesday but my wife is now going to the U2 concert. We now must go Thursday.

Well the Orsay is open late on Thursdays. You can certainly go at 2:30 on a Thursday and have about 3 hours before they roll up which is a nice amount of time for the Louvre. I love the place -- but 3 hours is about what we spend on a single visit.
