"A higher entrance fee for non-EU visitors, a dedicated room for the Mona Lisa, and a grand new entrance... These are some of the plans presented by French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday to revamp the dilapidated Louvre Museum in Paris."
It will be much needed additional entrance, in fact.
Mona Lisa will be in an underground room at an additional fee.
Twice as many visitors come to the museum than had been projected during its last renovation.
if they have any sense, Mona gets moved to another place that has €50 admission fee and all those selfish selfies can just go get their selfie and the rest of us can go to the museum in peace.
I'm with Carol here.
Me too.
I last saw Mona Lisa in 2017 and couldn’t get very close.
I have a great photo of a woman simpering into her phone , taking her own photo , right in front of Mona.
Blocking others view.
It looks like Mona is simpering down at the woman who is more interested in herself than the art.
I have said for years, they need to build a whole new area, do it nice, add info on Davinci and other artists of the era, build up to the viewing, maybe even a moving sidewalk as you pass by the Mona Lisa, hey, add a multi media presentation. Make it an experience and charge appropriately, even add in entry to the rest of the Louvre.
That takes a huge percentage of the visitors out of the main museum, eases crowds, makes everyone's experience much better.
Will it happen? Meh.
What all of you said. The first time I saw her 20+ yrs it was crowded but I could stand at the rope without interference . 5 yrs later much worse. Now I let friends who want the experience go without me while I explore some new (to me) nook in the Louvre like des horloges (watches/ clocks) ! I hope they do find a new place to install her with the appropriate controls for real viewing.
the Mona Lisa will be moved to a dedicated room and will be subject to a separate admission ticket.
I really hope this happens!
I agree that the Mona Lisa should be in a separate room with an additional charge, but the charge does not need to be (and shouldn't be) exorbitant. That's not really fair to actual art lovers and fans of da Vinci. Better to just restrict use of cameras and phones and prohibit selfies. If anyone needs a photo of the painting they can buy one in the museum shop.
What Carol said.
