We read that we need a timed entry ticket to visit the Louvre ( will be there Wed, 10/26 ) and I see on their web site that it closes that day at 6 pm. We do not finish another tour till 12:30 pm . Don't know if it could run late, so we are trying to figure out the best time to get our timed entry. If you show up late for the timed entry do you get turned away ? If there is a long line, and you have a timed entry ticket, do you go right in ? Thank you !
Museum policies about late arrival vary. The tickets section of the Louvre website may include its late-arrival policy.
Assuming the Louvre is still selling tickets on site (I haven't checked), there will be separate lines for those with tickets and those needing to buy tickets. There will also be a security line that everyone must go through.
Thank you for your reply! :)
There is definitely a little leeway. The day I went they were lining people up by admission time. We were a couple of minutes after our actual time and the line was already down to maybe 3/4 of the way down the northern face of the Pyramid. We saw people with our same admission time arriving even as we were going through the metal detectors and into the Pyramid.
Do you know where your other tour will end?
If your other tour will more or less be in the area, I'd probably book for 2-2:30 which gives you time to pick up a little lunch and maybe sit in the Tuileries for a few minutes if it's a nice day. With a 6PM closure they'll start shooing people out about 530 but for myself 3 hours at a time is all I, personally, can do in the Louvre. I've done longer visits (in the 5-hour range) but it is just such a large facility that for myself I try to cut off at about 3 hours. YMMV of course on how long a visit is comfortable for you.
You also don't really need to book this far in advance. In fact, looking at the ticket availability for tomorrow (Aug 3) it's completely booked but for Thursday Aug 4 there are tickets available all afternoon. I'd NOT wait until the day before but check the ticket calendar often and see how fast things are booking out.

SCFamily thank you !
Pam, thank you ! good suggestions , all three answers to my question have been very helpful.
Just returned from our Louvre visit. They have a 30 minute window. They don't seem too strict as most places with timed entry allowed us to enter ahead of our time slot.
