Louvre Tickets - easy enough to buy in Paris?

I've read several posts and responses with regards to where to buy tickets for the Louvre in France, such as FNAC and so forth and which entrance to go to for shortest lines. Bottom line, is it worth it at all to buy online tickets to make sure we have them, or is it easy enough to find the locations to buy tickets in Paris (and therefore not lock us into a day/time and so forth)? Tickets don't "sell out" for the Louvre, do they?

I have been to the Louvre a couple of dozen times and enter via something other than the Pyramid entrance. I have only had a significant line once and buying tickets once through security is easy from many many machines as well as several manned kiosks.

For the Orsay however, have a ticket in hand as that accesses a much shorter security line.

I've never heard of the Louvre selling out for individual travelers. They do limit the number of tour groups that enter per day (who need to reserve). There are always portions of the museum without the crowds that you find in the most popular halls. For instance, I visited the relatively new Islamic art exhibit with hardly another soul around.
