Can anyone tell me if I have a ticket to the Louvre and want to leave and return later the same day is that allowed or once I'm out would I need another ticket to re-enter?

The ticket is good for the whole day so, yes you can go and come back.

And if you have a Paris Museum Pass, you can go back for as many days as the Pass lasts!
