Hi, I've already been to the Louvre this visit, but I'm thinking about going again on the first Sunday in October again for free. I'm only interested in looking at less-well-known paintings, so won't be going to the more heavily traveled areas within the museum. Thanks ahead for your input. My stay this time, by the way, is lovely so far. Two weeks here already and two weeks to go.
Since it is free to get in you will lose nothing if you just leave should you find it too crowded.
I agree with Norma. However, the Louvre is enormous and there are lots of rooms that are less frequented by the crowds. You could easily spend most of your time in these parts of the museum.
Arrive early as lines for security will be as long as usual.. no one jumps those lines and the flood of people going just because its free can make that line long.
Personally I would use a free day to visit a museum that was on my "maybe" list,, one I am not sure I would pay for.. that way if I'm not thrilled with it.. I have lost no cash. Seems like a waste to use it on a big museum like the Orsay or Louvre.. museums you were most likely to visit ( or revisit)..
Bonus is some of the lesser known or smaller museums will not be crowded.. even on a free day.. so easier to do two or three of them that day if you desire.. and really get your moneys worth so to speak.
I think that's a great idea of Pat's. We'll be there on November 2nd, and I was timing our museum pass days to avoid that Sunday. Maybe we'll hit a few of the smaller sites then.
In looking for info on what's open, I found this:
