Louvre Museum Tour Recs

Does anyone recommend a tour company or have suggestions for the Louvre Museum tour. We will be in Paris June 7-10th, family of 4; (3 adults and 1 (14) year old. I was hoping for a private tour and was looking at Viator. Thoughts?

No recs here, but remember that Viator is a broker, not a tour company. They do not give tours themselves.

Are you only wanting to hit the "highlights" or do you have specific interests? Besides the guided tours CL has linked, there are also audio guides available.

In addition to the artwork, the Louvre itself is interesting with the Napoleon Apartments or you can go underground to see the original foundations and moat of the medieval fortress from the 12th century.

Many years ago, I took one of the introductory tours offered by the Louvre. I din’t remember much specifically but I thought it was a good overview.

Paris Walks does a small group tour of the Louvre on Fridays. They also offer private tours. I’ve been very happy with all the group tours that I have taken with Paris Walks and would not hesitate to book through them. Here is the link to their private tours:

For thir public tours, they post their schedule about 2 months in advance

Lisa, the Louvre is made up of 3 wings. Here is a horribly simplistic description of what you'll find.

The Denon wing currently houses, among other works, the Mona Lisa, Winged Victory of Samothrace, the Wedding Feast at Cana and Liberty Leading the People.

The Richelieu wing includes the Napoleon III apartments as well as sculptures and Northern European art (Vermeer, Rembrandt).

The Sully wing is the oldest part of the Palace and this is where you'll find the underground ruins of the medieval Louvre fortress as well as Venus de Milo and other antiquities.

It is a supremely crowded museum. I have been three times and wouldn’t go again. The other museums in Paris, including the d’Orsay, appeal to me much more.
