The guided tour tickets I wanted to purchase are sold out for 4/29. Does anyone have any suggestions for any private companies or other tour companies that offer guided tours of the Louvre (1.5 hours) that are not too expensive? We would like to see the highlights...Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, etc.
Thank you!
Use the RS guide in his book.
You can see all the high points of the Louvre on your own. There are maps and signs available inside the Louvre. Unless you are interested in hearing about the history of the art itself, I would recommend doing your own tour.
We’ve read a lot of what Rick Steves has written and the Louvre tour is one of the best. Buy the Paris book, read the tour, rip out the pages and go. You’ll be in and out in a few hours having seen the “biggies” and you will be your own personal guide!
The Louvre opens at 9:00. Buy your tickets on line, and try for 9 or 9:30. We went this morning. Our tickets were for 9:30. We walked right in, but there were already hundreds in line to buy tickets.
Decided to go straight to Mona Lisa. It was already crowded. BTW, it's set into the wall behind protective glass. My wife worked her way up to take a pic. If you think you'd like to stand and contemplate, forget it.
By the time we left Mona, The room was full, and uncomfortably hot.
Most of the galleries were less crowded, but the place still seemed like a circus.
Lots of large groups being herded around, and alarms going off every time someone got to close to something.
Hopefully, the Orsay will be more comfortable.
Rick Steves' free, downloadable audio tour of the Louvre is also excellent.
