We are traveling with a person who could not stand in lines for security for over 30 minutes.
Has anyone purchased the timed Louvre Museum timed tickets at home? Does it help with the security line? Also when do the Eiffel Tickets go on sale? I have been on the web site and it seems like the calendar is up to mid June. Thanks in advance.
The Eiffel Tower tickets go on sale 3-months out. In order for me to get tickets on the date & time I wanted. I was on the site at 11:30pm Pacific Time to get them as they became available in Paris. With the timed tickets at the Eiffel Tower, you get in line about 10 minutes before your scheduled time, walk through the metal detector & bag check & head straight to the elevator. There will be a group of you with the same timed entry. If heading to the top floor, you and everyone else get off on the second level and stand in line for the elevator to the top/3rd floor. This line can wrap around the outer edge of the Tower, great for views & pictures of Paris.
As for the Louvre. When I was there last May they actually had 3 lines at the Pyramid. One for those with the Museum Pass, one for those with tickets already purchased from the Louvre site and a third for those waiting to purchase tickets inside the museum. Everyone went through the same security check point once entering the Pyramid. Bag check, scan & walk through arch, then down the escalators or elevator for those in wheelchairs or crutches/canes. They let people in from all 3 lines at the same time but in small groups. Once you hit the ground level you head to the Wing you wish to start with & again they will look at your ticket/Museum Pass to let you in the Wing. Those without tickets or a Pass purchase them once they depart from the escalators at the many ticket windows.
I got in line with my Museum Pass at 8:15 for the 9:00 opening. We were number 2 & 3 in the Museum Pass line, by 9:00 there was about 100 folks in our line, 50 or so with pre purchased Louvre tickets in their line and 100 or more folks in the line to purchase tickets once inside. There were signs indicated which line was for which ticket/pass, they were the size of a standard sheet of paper. The issue was they were posted closer to the Pyramid entrance and not towards the back of the roped off area. But the security, when we were there, were walking around ensuring folks got in the correct line by checking tickets & passes.
Enjoy your trip.
The line at the pyramid is not the only entry...and usually the busiest. When we were last there, the lines were short so no big deal, but if it is busy, use the Richelieu Wing entrance. It says it is for group entry but will also let those with MP or timed tickets in.
But you can look it up and find the other entrances. They are all less busy than the pyramid.
Was there earlier this month. Had timed tix for Eiffel Tower but the lines I saw weren't impressive. We had no need for timed tix at the Louvre - had the museum pass, came around 6pm on one of their extended night hours days and walked right in.
Last May I had a timed ticket for the Eiffel tower at 10 am on a weekday and security moved quickly, walked up and waited maybe 5 minutes to get through--you go through based on your ticket time, not ahead of that. I entered the Louvre through the Carrousel and had a museum pass, again no waiting in a security line but this was around 5 pm on a day they were open late.
