I have a lost my passport with Schengan Visa and Green Card in Paris. I am trying to get new passport and travel document but can someone please advise on the process to get the Schengen visa in Paris or what documents I will need to exit Paris.
Go to your embassy in Paris and start by getting a replacement passport. Then you can go from there.
Fixing this is not the end of the world but it will take some effort. Exiting France is the easy part. They don't want to keep you there.
Your trickier part is getting back into the US. I can't help with the Schengen visa part of it so what follows is just about replacing the green card and getting back into the US. There are a few steps you will need to take in order to be readmitted into the US. You will need to visit the local police station in order to file a police report about the lost green card. Keep a file of this report so that you can prove that you have lost your green card. I have been told that you need to file a lost report in the local newspaper and buy a copy of the newspaper and keep a receipt of the payment for the ad so that you can show that your card was stolen but I am not sure about that. Most importantly, you will need to visit the US embassy to report your green card as lost. Visiting the local US embassy is important because officials can arrange a “letter of transportation” for you. You will need to file a form, submit passport photos, and pay a filing fee in order to get a letter of transportation. You will also need to have a valid passport. Since you lost your passport as well, you will need to get a replacement passport from your country of origin. The letter of transportation will allow you to re-enter the US without your green card. Once you are back in the US, you will still need to file USCIS Form I-90 to replace your lost or stolen green card.
Do you have a copy of your signed work contract? If not, try to get a copy from your employer.
It will work out.
But how is Paris? Are you otherwise having fun? And was it a pickpocket?
Not sure if anyone can relax in such a scenario. In my case, police refused to file and report but after a lot of pleading they did file one and on basis of which I got my replacement passport (was surprised to see that were several other families with lost/stolen passports in embassy and was told that this is common in Paris).
How did you solve your issues. My family is in the same issue now.
