Lorient U-boat base

Wondering if anyone has been to the former German U-boat pens in Lorient, France recently. I'm hoping to make a day trip there from points east sometime 1-4 June 2016, just showing up early afternoon is what I'd prefer to do; I'm starting to doubt the wisdom of that plan but for now I'm sticking with it. On another forum people have been reporting mixed success getting in there, complaints of some disorganization etc. I suppose it would be best to reserve a tour if that's the only way you can see the place but guess my basic question is how can you do that online? Searching always brings one to the site www.uboat-bases.com, if that is the official website I can't seem to get very far with it, not a huge amount of information; there is a link that says something like Reserve Tour but that seems to only get you to something about the submarine that's on display and I don't need to see that. In fact that whole site has the look of not being kept up to date; brief mention of hours/dates refers to April 2010! Thanks to anyone with up-to-date information, experience or advice!

Yes, that's the full address of the Lorient page but I've been to it several times. Thanks anyway!

PS: Well I can answer my own question now, for anyone else who's interested. I learned of this website:
http://www.lorient-tourisme.fr

Searching on "Keroman" leads you to a brochure with information, email address etc and I found what I wanted to know.

Hi,

Bravo...stick with the original plan. I take it you are aware of the U-boat museum and naval war memorial (Marine Ehrenmal) in Germany near Kiel, ie at Möltenort and Laboe. You can access Laboe by train from Kiel Hbf, change to a bus. The other choice is to go by ferry from the station near Kiel Hbf. Laboe I've only visited once to see all that as a day trip from Kiel. That was in 1977. Worth going to if you want to walk through a German sub from the war. It is also a war museum in Germany not "sanitised." The same as in England.

Hi Fred,
Thanks for that information; believe I've heard about the museum you refer to, unfortunately Germany isn't part of my upcoming travels - maybe next time. And I am sticking with the plan now except the day trip is now a 2-day trip!
