Looking for some fun activities for kids in Southern France

Headed to France October 3rd - October 18th. We will be spending 7 days in Southern France before heading to Paris for the rest of our trip. We'll be doing the French Riveria( No Nice- alot of rock for beach time), Provence and Loire Valley in that order. As well be doing alot of site seeing, we think the kids ( Daughters 13,10, 9) might get a bit bored and need some fun/activities to breakup the site seeing. Last year in Italy we broke up our trip with some hiking in the Cingue Terra and Biking riding in Lucca just for examples. Any ideas for France would be awesome. Thanks

Aaron

well, hiking in any of those areas would be good. And bicycling is nice and easy in the Loire Valley - it's flat!

Do the girls like castles? Maybe a stop at Carcassonne?

Yes! Take them to The Camargue south of Arles - it's a protected area with wild horses and flamingos.... they're probably going to love it.

Hi David,

They love Castles but were thinking after a day site seeing castles they get bored. Carcassonne is a good idea but might be a little of a drive from Avignon no?

What do your kids like to do, Aaron?

There are great hikes in the Luberon, and you can swim at the Pont du Garde.

The Pont, and the Roman Theater in Orange are particularly spectacular.

You can take a boat ride in the Camargue, and rent bikes there and toodle round.

It's going to be hot, so you might want to plan a siesta midday.

By early to mid October, you may encounter unfavorable weather already, so it's good to plan alternatives to any beach time (especially as you head further north).

In the Riviera, you can take the walk around Cap Ferrat or the Sentier du Littoral around Cap d'Antibes. Go to Eze, a very 'castle-like" town and go to the perfume factory to blend their own scents. Take a ferry to one of the Leyrins Islands (St. Honorat). Check out the Oceanographic Museum in Monaco.
