Any suggestions are appreciated. We will be there in August so I think reservations will be important.
We stayed at Hotel Nouveau Monde and had dinner there both nights. Both the food and service were excellent. The hotel is a few blocks outside the city walls and directly faces the beach, so the restaurant also has beautiful views of the bay.
Absolutely reserve in St. Malo -- there are many good restaurants and many terrible tourist places especially along the wall by the parking lot. We had excellent luck at Bistrot du Rocher and at l'Absinthe. I think the best fish we had in Paris was at Rocher which is a tiny place. Reserve.
Just to avoid any confusion, the port city of Saint-Malo is in Brittany not Normandy. Unless you are referring to the little village of St Malo de la Lande.
As noted above, there is a Saint Malo in Normandie, but I'm pretty sure you're referring to the one in Bretagne. If so, I would check Gault & Millau's recommendations for restaurants.
If, on the other hand, you are hoping to visit Saint-Malo-de-la-Lande in Normandie, you'll have to head south to Tourville-sur-Sienne (l'Extravagante) or west to Blainville (Le Mascaret is good) or Agon-Coutainville (lots of choices) for restaurants. The only place in Saint-Malo-de-la-Lande is a bar/tabac.épicerie called Le Montgomery.
I had a wonderful meal at Bouche en Folie. Reservations are definitely required.
