Looking for recs on summertime side trips from Paris!

Hello!

My cousin and I will be traveling to Paris from August 26-Sept 2 (about 6 days). It will be my 4th time to Paris, but her first. We are currently considering an overnight (or two nights) outside of Paris to get away from the city. I know that this is a short amount of time, but we JUST booked this last minute ($400 on Air France nonstop from SFO for these specific dates so the time limitation was dictated by us getting this incredible deal!). I have been to Europe many times and am aware that 6 days barely scratches the surface, but we thought well at this price, why not!

She does want to see Versailles so we will plan on that. We were hoping to squeeze in a beach destination as we'd like to get our tanning on, but I quickly realized that getting to the French Riviera would be a bit much with the short amount of time we have, especially with all I want to show her in Paris.

Basically, I am looking to see if anyone has any ideas for getting out of Paris for one night (max two) where we can relax, drink wine, and stay somewhere with a pool (open to beaches or swimmable rivers as well!). I thought it would be neat to stay in a chateau but some of them seem so remote that we wouldn't be able to walk around and would be kind of stuck there. We are hoping to not have to rent a car but rather use trains (open to renting bikes). Any suggestions for places and/or specific hotels with pools we could get to easily from Paris? We are active and in our early 30's, but looking for something that will be a relaxing contrast to our busy days in Paris.

Thank you in advance for any recommendations!

Amboise might fill the bill. It is right on the Loire river and a day trip to one of the Chateaus would definitely be doable. Last time we stayed in Amboise we stayed at Le Clos d'Amboise. It is within the city center so you can easily walk to restaurants and cafes. It also has a lovely pool area for lounging. The room we stayed in was lovely and the staff was wonderful. Have a great trip!!

Depending upon weather of course, but you might think about Deauville/Trouville, my quick from Paris getaway beach destination in summer heat. The sand is the best in France and the train from Paris used to be easy.

Nancy and 75020 have suggested exactly the two options I came here to suggest!! Both of those options are around two hours from Paris by train (maybe a little more, maybe a little less) which makes them perfect options for you.

Thanks everyone! These options sound great. I also found out about Josephine Baker pool which is on the Seine in Paris. Has anyone gone there. Trying to figure out if it’s the type of place to lounge or more for actual swimming. Their website is in French so hard to get info!

More for actual swimming, although according to the website, they do have 500 square meters of space set aside for sunning oneself. You can see it in a small photo on this page of their site:

Here is an old post by Anne Ditmeyer on Paris swimming pools with info on the etiquette and usage.

You might also look on the Paris Breakfasts blog, Carole Gillott also goes swimming often and might have a post about Joséphine Baker.
