My husband and I have four days in France, in October, and we wanted to stay away from major cities. Heard from someone that visiting Strasbourg is a good option as it is not too far away from Paris( we have rented a car). Any recommendations on what to do? Is 4 days too much? Our other option is to do a trip to MSM with stops in Rouen and Caen.
Strasbourg is a good place to visit except it breaks your two criteria:
1) It is a big city, so not car friendly.
2) It is far from Paris, right on the German border. https://www.viamichelin.com/ says: Distance from Charles de Gaulle airport
482 km, Driving time: 04h35
Costs: €74.49 including Toll €36.10, Consumption €38.39
Though it is only 2 hours from Paris by TGV High Speed Train
If you want to visit Alsace (the area of France of which Strasbourg is the capital), I recommend visiting the smaller towns along the Route des Vins d'Alsace. Details here: https://www.alsace-wine-route.com/
Another option nearer Paris is the Champagne Area, and its capital Reims.
Hi,
Great that you have four extra days. If you are focusing on places between Paris and Strasbourg, all the more so with a car, there are numerous places...Reims (as suggested) Obernai, Meaux, Soissons, Troyes, Chateau Thierry, even Metz, Nancy, etc.
Thank you for the advice. Will look into spending time in smaller towns.
