Looking for Paris Recommendations: Food, Tours, Jazz Venues

My wife and I will be staying in Le Marais until July 21, with easy access to most of Paris by metro. Looking for recommendations from the RS community for places to eat meals or snacks (not overrun by tourists like us), remarkable tours, and any good places to see some jazz. Merci for any wisdom you can share.

How about a nice dinner at La Regalade Saint-Honore? Get a later res, say 21:00, and it's a good mostly local crowd. The Louvre is open late on Fridays, walk it from Le Marais! We loved it.

We wanted to make it to Sunset-Sunside for music, but next time for sure! There are lots of little clubs around too, there is a local paper that will have entertainment listings, the name escapes me now but someone here will know.

The Paris Walks are a great resource, no reservations needed, pay when you show up.

We stumbled on a place on rue de Rivoli, somewhere between Hotel de Ville and St. Paul. I just looked for it and it's called Cave de 38 Riv, at 38, rue de Rivoli. It's tiny, and down a long flight of steps into the cellar. We got down there and weren't sure what to do, so just sat down on little stools next to the band. More people would come down and have that same what-do-we-do look on their face. I was so close to the drummer that I could have reached out to stop the cymbals. We were their during an amateur jam session, but it was still pretty good. Only stayed about 45 minutes. It was stuffy, and I think to get a drink we would have had to make our way through (not past, through) the band and into the back. But definitely unique.

We just went on a fabulous food tour with a company called Paris by Mouth. You have to reserve ahead, but check the website to see if anything is available while you are there. It was worth every penny!

A few weeks ago we saw a fabulous one woman show, Hymne à Piaf - Caroline Nin (accompanied by a pianist and a bassist). The setting is an small cave theater (only holds 60) nearbye the Pompidou Center; it's a one act 90 min show/set and wonderfully performed. English language performance are Thurs. & Sat. I belive that reservations are a must. Enjoy. www.hymneapiaf.com
