Looking for gift ideas

My sister will be caring for our elderly cat while were gone 2 1/2 weeks. I would like to bring back something special from Paris or Lyon. I’m thinkilng probably not food items (due to dietary issues). She appreciates artistic, unique things. Hoping to spend around. $75-$100. I’m very ooen to suggestions for items or specific stores. Thank you!

hey hey becky
we would stop in a little tourist shop and find cute things. i bought a wall clock with paris monuments and a red 2CV car, an artist shop with a framed picture of the area i'm in, up montmartre where the artists are and have one painted/drawn or pick one hanging on their board, grocery stores have fun things like packaged sauces i bring home with me. you'd be surprised what you find.
we also stopped at a bisquit/cookie store on ile st louis (le gourmande) that has cute french decorated tin lunch boxes, fun to walk through this small store. good luck and have fun

I usually look for a shop that makes their own jewelry and purchase a pair of earrings or a bracelet. Sorry that I can not recommend any specific shops in those areas. In the past I've found places that carry things from various local artists/craftsmen. Perhaps your hotel could point you in the right direction.

One of my favorite things I have brought back from Paris is demitasse spoons. I love that I don't have to dust them, and they get used daily.

museum shops like the Orsay have quite beautiful silk scarves - which have the virtue of being so easy to carry back. I also bought two mugs from the Munch exhibit this fall which are precisely the right size for my morning cafe latte; we bought them because the coffee cups in the apartment were smaller than we like.

You could go to the St. Ouen market and deep in the center of the market are many small shops with glassware. I have twice purchased really lovely champagne flutes quite different from what I can get at home. They are of course harder to transport -- I buy kitchen storage boxes at monoprix or Hema or similar cheap housewares shops and wrap the carefully in bubble wrap (the shops do this) and then transport them in the hard boxes in my checked luggage. You have to want it to do al that.

Lots of small artisan shops in the Marais or pretty much everywhere with pretty earrings if she has pierced ears and likes them. Monsieur is a well known jewelry shop but there are many.

I think souvenirs are a bad idea -- no one really wants souvenirs of someone else's vacation (except kids of course who love those sparkling Eiffel towers). but a pretty scarf, glassware she would use, earrings are all possibilities depending on her tastes.

Another vote for museum gift shops.
Or, find some pretty little independent shops, buy something unique in one of them and then ask if you can take a photo of the owner and the shop .
Give the photo along with your gift.
