Would adding a drive through Parc National des Cévennes be enjoyable. Any recommendations? Thanks!
A few years ago, with friends I did a series of walks there. Lovely. Even more interesting, if prior to your jaunt you read about the Camisards. We followed some of the walks mentioned in Robert Louis Stevenson's Travels with a Donkey in the Cevennes. And yes, many tourists did the donkey thing. The Tarn Gorge was also part of our trip.
How cool! Had forgotten about the donkey thing. Thanks.
Your route won't take you too far from the Parc Naturel du Quercy, which was an interesting drive I did a few years ago. You can leave the A20 at Exit 59 near Caussade and start taking whichever road looks interesting with the goal of reaching St-Cirq-Lapopie, one of "les plus belles villages de France". From there you can follow the Lot River to Cahors. From Cahors there are several routes you can choose from to take you to Gourdon. From Gourdon, along the D704 to Groléjac (crossing the Dordogne), Sarlat-la-Canéda (market town), Montignac (Lascaux caves), and then the A89 to Perigueux.
Followed up with some research. Thanks for the suggestion!
