Looking for Advice - Rental Car or Train CDG to Metz

Hi!
We will be arriving at CDG in November (12pm) and plan to head to Metz same day. (Long haul flight/ lack of sleep not a concern as we will be coming from a stop over). I was set on taking a train (4 of us) however upon researching and pricing out options, I am thinking a car would certainly be more economical and plus side provide more flexability.

Train option - would need uber from CDG to Gare de l'Est (45 minutes?), train to Metz. Return two days later, Train to Gare de'Est, uber to Paris apartment.

Rental Car - pick up at CDG drive to Metz, (have not researched parking options, staying at Hotel de la Cathedrale). Would allow a detour to Nancy perhaps though we are only there 2 nights. Return - drive back to CDG, uber to Paris apartment.

Have taken a train from CDG before, not never picked up a rental car -- overall easy expierence? And should note, we have driven in France previously.

Price is a consideration, but convenience probably wins out. I am sure there are a thing or two I am not considering and would welcome any feedback! Thank you! Thank you!

There is currently a TGV train from CGD at 1502 with a 10 min change at Lorraine which gets in to Metz at 1728 - not checked November timetables.

The train from the CDG train station is the safest option after an overnight `flight.

Gas is 2 euro a liter. Parking will cost you 40 euro a day. Tolls are about 50 euro each way. A ticket will add considerably.

However, having a car is more flexible.

Don't uber from the Gare, use a taxi.

Should you opt for a rental car, don't forget to get an IDP for each driver before leaving home.

Taxis are a flat rate from CDG into central Paris, and can use the bus lanes, so may be both cheaper and faster than Uber.

Thank you all - lots of great points that I had not considered - including price of tolls. ALso looks like driving is considerably longer than the train as well which we want to get back to Paris quickly on our return day.

@LinC -- may I ask where you found the train from CDG to Metz with stop in Lorraine? Very interested in this option as we would have plenty of time to make it and it would avoid having to travel to Gare de l'Est!
