Looking for a place to stay in Normandy, and other questions

My friend and I are headed to Paris on Wednesday and have just decided to add a couple of days in Normandy by car. I have a very rough outline that would be a loop of one day of D-Day sites, except the American Cemetery (Beaches, German cemetery, Caen museum, Bayeux tapestry) then day 2 of American Cemetery and Mont St. Michel, possibly Chartres on the way back if we have time. We are not people to linger at sites, and I've visited all of these about 20 years ago.

Is there any place that stands out as must not miss?
I really need to find a place to stay...my preference would be for a b&b type place somewhere between or near Caen or Bayeaux. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Finally, I recently discovered an awesome app that provides information on a site based on your GPS. It's called GyPSy Guide, but they don't have a France version. Are there any apps like that for Normandy or France?

I'd recommend the Hotel de Sainte Croix (more of a B&B than hotel, despite the name) in Bayeux, but looks like it's booked this week.

In 2012 my wife and I stayed at the La Naomath et D-Day Kota Hébergement Insolite B&B in Bayeux. Accommodations were great and food was wonderfully filling. At the time the rates were very reasonable. I had difficulty finding the place from the printed directions and did not have GPS at the time but a few phone calls to the hosts and all was well. We recommend it.

We were pleased in 2016 with this Bayeux apartment listed on HomeAway/VRBO: https://www.vrbo.com/1019213ha#summary

It's a 1 BR, with a convertible couch in the living room (which we did not test drive). Good location; convenient parking; terrific landlady (in US) who was extremely helpful. If I'm reading her calendar correctly, it looks like it's available for your dates. (Our review is dated May 24, 2016, attributed to "Anonymous". ) It's not a B&B, but there's an excellent cafe for breakfast a few doors down the street.

We stayed at the Ibis hotel in Port en Bessin last year in April. Not a B&B but it was inexpensive, close to the beaches and in a quaint fishing village with great restaurants. It's a smaller hotel and we loved it and the village.

Thanks all. I found a place to stay close to Point du Hoc. A 16th century castle...we are very much looking forward to it!

We have a room reserved for September at Logis Les Remparts Lecornu in Bayeux (www.lecornufr.com; lecournu.bayeux@gmail.com). Small B&B with only a few rooms but Christele is very helpful and we are looking forward to staying with her. .

P.S. The family makes and sells apple brandy & have a shop on the ground floor!

Good luck & have a great trip!
