Loire versus Burgundy on a rental bike

I will be flying into Paris in early September. I am torn between the Loire Valley and Burgundy. I went to chill, eat good food, drink nice wine and see beautiful things. I also am not going to rent a car but am hoping to rent a bike most days. which place can I travel on a bike and see a lot of sights? Is one better than the other? I will also be traveling alone and wondering if ti is safe for a woman to bike alone. Thanks!

Loire valley will be flatter, and Burgundy will be more rural. That said there are hills in the former and cities in the latter, so it would be up to you.

The main thing is, in the Loire you will be able to see Loire sights, and in Burgundy, Burgundy sights.

I'd really suggest you read up a little on both regtions. See what the 2- and 3-star Micheline Green sights are. Which sound more compelling to you?

I'd decide on that basis.

First of all, thank you Barbara, Adam and Robert for your thoughtful answers. I appreciate your help. I think I can see more sights and it will be more of mix as far as wine, shops chateaux's etc. I think I can easily bike to Chenenseau and some other places so no car needed. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question. It is much appreciated!

Loire is flat if you stay on the river. There is a very convenient bike trail on the River.

I've ridden from Chinon to Vilandry to Amboise. The first half was fairly hilly. What seem like gentle rolling hills in a car are a little more than that on a bike. From Amboise to Chenonceau the first mile up out of the valley is quite steep, the rest of the 20+ km ride is fairly comfortable.

In Burgundy it's all rolling hills. I don't know of any dedicated paved bike trails. You could ride along the Burgundy canal along a little tow path that will take you through various towns. That would be mostly flat. I think that would be my preference to avoid difficult riding and car traffic.

What do you like? In Loire, the towns and Chateaux are 17th and 18th century. In Burgundy, Beune is the same but many of the small towns are medieval.
