Hello fellow travelers,
Please help me decide what option makes the most sense and is not too stressful.
Part of my trip involves 3 nights in Amboise then heading back to Paris to get on the Eurostar. I will have a rental car but do not want to drive in Paris.
Option # 1 Leave Amboise early in the AM and drive to Vaux-Le-Vicomte (2.5 hour trip), when done, drive to Versailles, one hour away, drop off the car and spend the night there (no, I am not planning to go to the Palace) then take the RER in to Paris the next day. Vaux-Le-Vicomte is having their special once a year Rendez-vous Grand Siecel on that day where they have many 17th century special events so I would love to go. My concerns are: is it too much in one day with driving and how likely is a rental car agency to be open on a Saturday evening in Versailles? I assume Sunday morning would be no better.
Option # 2: Option # 1 but spend the night near Vaux-Le-Vicomte and drive to Orly for car drop off the next morning as the rental car places have extensive hours at the airport. How bad is that drive? I live in California so I know stressful driving but I don't enjoy it. I'm not sure if a weekend makes the drive better or worse.
Option # 3. Return the car somewhere in the Loire Valley in a larger town (Amboise, Blois or Tours), train directly back to Paris and skip Vaux-Le-Vicomte. Has anyone had experience returning a rental car in these towns on a Saturday?
Thank you!
