Hi -- looking for tour recommendations, particularly if they start in Amboise, with Tours a close second. A half day would be good ... we only have a few days, but would consider a full day tour if it were really special. Ideally would something that wouldn't be equally easy to do ourselves, so not the main chateaux. Although my son is coming, it is OK (maybe preferred) if it involves some wine, as long as the whole thing isn't a wine tasting. Any ideas? Thanks!
Biking. From either. Though this could involve 3 - 7 nights. I know that is more than your looking for, but worthy of consideration, depending on your 13 year old's interests and your activity level.

for suggestions re: various operators.
Cycling in the Loire is pretty easy. And the touring the chateaux (whether main, or minor) along the way does not require a guide. The "self-guided" bike tours typically include luggage transfers. When we did this, last year, our tour included a winery stop between Amboise and Tours. Our particular tour started in Blois and finished in Saumur. (7 nights)
Also, as you know, Chateau du Clos Luce - where Leonardo da Vinci lived out his last few years - is in Amboise. It is walking distance from the town center and, again, does not require a guide. Great for a 13 year old. It is certainly NOT one of the "main" chateaux.
