i heard you can get a pass at the Amboise tourist office. it's along the river, 1 block on the right of the castle if you face the castle, river behind you. however, you may want to read about the chateaus first, some of the interesting ones may not be included in the pass. if you have anybody younger than 18, either get discounted tickets, or chambord is free.

most of those combotickets only save a very small amount. Your B&B or hotel may have discounts too. Mine certainly did. They were on the order of €1 or €1.30 or something per location.

We looked into this for our trip last fall; we visited 11 chateaux over about a week. However, the passes are for very specific combinations, and none of them really worked for us. We were able to get a modest discount at one or two places [Chinon, and maybe Langeais] by showing our tickets to Fontevraud Abbey. As Nigel points out, the actual discount is quite small. We were also hoping to use the pass to skip the lines, but in October there were rarely any lines to worry about.

Which chateaux do you plan to visit?

Hi Kathleen,
We plan on visiting Chenonceau,Chambord,Cheverny,Chaumont,Azay-Le-Rideau and the town of Amboise. We are staying at a B&B in Vouvray for five nights,I dont know if we can add much more,we like to enjoy our visits and not run through the places to just say that we were there. From there we go to St Malo.

Most towns have an Office de Tourisme (Tourist Information Office) that sells discounted tickets for surrounding chateaux. I have spent a few hours online, and it seems each TI has different discount rates for different chateaux. What I did was, make a list of each chateau I want to visit, then find out which TI offers the best discount for that particular chateau (most list their prices online) - keeping in mind that I can't buy a ticket from where I'll be on Wednesday for a chateau I plan to see on Tuesday!

I ended up finding 2 TI's that offered the best rates possible for what I want to see, with a savings of $37 CAD total for 2 people.
